Few things we still know about Resistance, which premieres this October at Disney XD. We do know that Dave Filoni will not be as involved as in the previous Lucasfilm animation series, although he is still the creator of Resistance. This is due, in part, to the fact that Filoni has been busy with the new batch of episodes of the magnificent Clone Wars, which wisely Disney has rescued for his time as owners of Lucasfilm.
Resistance stories take place in the time period between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, and their argument is as follows:
“Resistance fighter Poe Dameron instructs young pilot Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono to spy to the First Order. At that time, little is known about the secret organization and its strength.
To fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the Coloso space station, which many spaceships use as a port to refuel and make repairs. However, it is a place where dangerous illegal races are also carried out. After Kaz boasts of his skills as a pilot upon his arrival there, he will soon be involved in one of the races … “
Of the importance that it will have inside the canon of Star Wars we can be quite convinced by details such as that Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will be those that double their characters of the movies too in Resistance.
What can we expect from Resistance? With no doubt, new characters, scenarios and adventures that make grow the fantastic imaginary of the distant galaxy.
In the technical section, as has been said, and as we can see in these images of the first trailer, a style inspired by anime, mixed perhaps with the wonders that Lucasfilm has accustomed us in his animated series, such as the prodigious treatment of light in Clone Wars, or of the reflections in Rebels.
We can also intuit a story endowed with charismatic characters and endearing situations, which will sometimes become darker, we think, if the background mission is the espionage of the New Order.
Things that will make us become again fond of a group of unknown characters, so well, why not, as Rebels managed to do it, even though at the beginning that series meant shelving Clone Wars and such important characters in the series as the very ones Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
There, in Clone Wars, the main novelty was an Ahsoka Tano that went from being an incongruous and uncomfortable character to some (Why did not we see her in the movies, they wondered, why suddenly, Anakin had a Padawan? … you know, prejudice, prejudice …) to one who won the admiration of practically all the fandom, settling in the heart of every good Star Wars fan definitely with her reappearance, years later, in the events narrated in Rebels.
It is therefore possible to ask if Ahsoka will be the connecting link of the three series, which in turn are the mortar that brilliantly expands, unites and complements the events that are told in the movies, and if we’ll see her again in some of the seasons of Resistance.
And also, of course, if during the adventures of this group of aces of the Resistance we will visit Hosnian, Jakku, or they will cross paths with other characters of the sequels … like FN2187, or even Rey, or Ben Solo / Kylo Ren, Leia, Han Solo …
The fact that the stories of these pilots take place at a time when all the characters we see in the sequels are living, is one of the most exciting things, a priori, of this new series; and gives Resistance such immense possibilities as Clone Wars.
Do we make bets?
